YOUR CARBON REDUCTION QUEST

ESTABLISH THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR CLIMATE EFFORTS WITH A BASELINE REPORT

"Baseline" means "starting point" or "foundation." A CO2-eq baseline does just that: it calculates a baseline for how your company's climate footprint looks today, and it becomes the starting point for your ongoing climate efforts. By gaining insight into where your largest climate footprints are, you can reduce where it has the most significant impact - both for your company and the planet!

CLIMATE FOOTPRINT IS MEASURED IN CO2 EQUIVALENTS

CO2 equivalents, abbreviated as CO2-eq, are a measurement unit used to compare emissions of different greenhouse gases based on their contributions to the greenhouse effect, also known as their global warming potential. To make this comparison, we calculate how much CO2 gas would need to be emitted to achieve the same greenhouse effect as the particular gas. This calculation also allows for consolidating the entire company's greenhouse gas emissions under one measurement unit.

1. Overview of Climate Footprint A climate account provides the company with a clear overview of its greenhouse gas emissions and enables the identification of the primary sources of emissions.
2. Identification of Focus Areas The climate account helps identify areas where the company can implement effective measures to reduce emissions and promote sustainable and energy-efficient solutions.
3. Strategic Tool for Sustainability Efforts The climate account serves as a strategic tool for the company's climate and energy planning, allowing the tracking of emissions trends over time
4. Opportunity to Stand Out The climate account can strengthen the company's sustainability profile and differentiate it from competitors, which can be an advantageous business strategy
5. Future Demands & Requirements As more customers are already requesting climate footprint reporting, and legal requirements for climate accounts are on the horizon, having a CO2-eq baseline is good practice to be well-prepared.
Conclusion

The climate account is therefore an important resource for companies that want to take responsibility for their environmental impact, enhance their reputation, and contribute to the global efforts to combat climate change

Determining a Baseline

A baseline is calculated based on the company's consumption of energy and other resources contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. This includes everything from electricity for lighting to employee transportation and procurement.

After receiving guidance from us, you conduct a data collection where you gather consumption data, for example, for your lighting and ventilation. Data collection is done in a dedicated Excel sheet using a detailed guide.

The consumption is then converted into emissions using the methods and emission factors established in the Climate Compass and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. The GHG Protocol is a recognized standard for measuring and reporting a company's CO2 emissions. This protocol is also recommended by the EU for this purpose. Based on this, both a total CO2-eq footprint and footprints divided into scopes 1, 2, and 3 are calculated.

To perform the calculations, we use a custom calculator that follows the GHG Protocol, allowing us to dive deeper into the calculations and explore more subcategories. This results in a better overview of the climate footprint and a clearer understanding of where and how emissions can be reduced

CO2-eq emissions are divided into three scopes:

  • Scope 1 includes all of the company's direct sources of CO2eq emissions that it can control, such as emissions from its own vehicles and facilities for energy production, as well as process gases and refrigerants.
  • Scope 2 covers the company's indirect sources of CO2eq emissions from energy consumption, meaning emissions from companies that supply the company with energy, such as district heating and electricity.
  • Scope 3 includes the indirect CO2eq emissions from the company's value chain. This includes both upstream activities, such as the company's purchases from suppliers and employees' commuting to work, and downstream activities, such as emissions related to the use and disposal of the company's products

WE ASSIST YOU IN THE PROCESS

C7 Baseline is a full-support solution where you have our experienced consultants with you throughout the entire process.
  • CO2 Calculation

We perform the climate footprint calculation using our in-house developed Complete7 method, which is based on the GHG Protocol. The spreadsheet provides a detailed overview of consumption and climate footprint within various parts of your company
  • Baseline Report

Based on this information, a report is created that includes an overview of your consumption and emissions, as well as concrete suggestions on how you can reduce your consumption and, consequently, your emissions
  • Compliant with Public Calculation Methods and Requirements

As part of our calculations, we will also fill out your profile in the Climate Compass, which is the Danish Business Authority's tool for creating climate accounts. This ensures that you also have your climate account in a format used by many other stakeholders.

WE HAVE MADE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE

The process of calculating a CO2-eq baseline involves a structured six-step approach

1
Task description
Alignment of expectations
2
Brief on Situation and Needs
You provide us with information about your situation and initial thoughts on CO2 contributors
3
Data collection
Together, we fill out the calculator regarding your energy consumption and other factors affecting your climate footprint
4
Final Calculation
Based on the previous step, we conduct your final calculations and ensure their quality
5
Generating the Report
Data collection, briefing, and calculated climate footprints form the basis of a report that is validated by you before final delivery
6
Input into the Climate Compass
We input the results into your profile in the Climate Compass and agree on follow-up for the report
