STANDARD

ISO AS A STANDARD

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international body for standardization. Standardization ensures uniformity and harmonization of products, exemplified by the USB-C connector, which is now used as a standard solution, or the fact that products developed in one country can use batteries developed in another. In addition to products, there are also standards for topics such as health, environment, and sustainability.

ISO 50005: Gradual implementation of energy management One of the standards developed by ISO is ISO 50005. This standard provides guidance for the implementation of an energy management system and is particularly intended to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in becoming more energy and cost-efficient. Through a gradual and systematic approach, flexibility is increased, allowing the company to work at its own pace with the resources available.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT WITH COMPLETE7

THE PROCESS
ISO 50005 is, for many companies, an ideal checklist that can guide the company through energy management. However, even though ISO 50005 is designed to be a less complex and more flexible method for working with energy management, the standard is still comprehensive. It includes 138 different requirements that the company must meet to fully implement the standard. However, the standard does not provide guidance on how to approach these 138 requirements. Additionally, some criteria are interdependent, making it challenging to find a logical sequence that makes sense both in terms of the standard and the company's operations.

Complete7 has a solution for this. The C7 process provides a structured approach and clear guidance for tackling the standard in a more efficient way. By following the step-by-step method of the C7 process through seven phases, you are guided through the entire process and provided with a clear sequence to follow, making it easier to handle the various requirements of the standard.

WHAT YOU COULD EXPECT
The ISO 50005 standard includes 138 requirements, all categorized into 13 elements, each consisting of several themes and four different levels. This can seem very confusing, so through the C7 process, we have organized all these levels systematically. Your company simply needs to follow the course's progression, where, based on recommendations and guides, you will find it easier to achieve energy management goals. Specifically, you can expect the following benefits from the course:

  • An otherwise complex structure is broken down into seven phases that you simply need to follow.
  • All requirements are explained to be clear and concrete.
  • Each requirement comes with accompanying recommendation text and tools, making it much easier for you to achieve your goals.
  • You can track your progress on your journey and have a constant overview of how far you've come and what's left.
  • You receive concrete documentation of your energy management work, which you can present to suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • As part of the ISO process, you also get Complete7's well-established energy optimization program, providing you with specific recommendations on how to save energy.

BENEFITS OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT

In the broader picture, energy management can help SMEs improve their financial performance, reduce their environmental impact, and enhance their competitiveness in the market. It is an investment in sustainable growth and can contribute to creating a more efficient and responsible business. Here are some concrete benefits:

Cost Savings: Energy management can help companies identify inefficient energy usage and implement measures to reduce energy consumption.

Competitive Advantages: Sustainability has become a crucial factor for many consumers, and companies that demonstrate commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility can attract and retain customers who prioritize sustainability.

Reduction of CO2 Footprint: By reducing energy consumption, you decrease your CO2 emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change. This can enhance your company's image and reputation among both customers and stakeholders.
Compliance with Regulations: There are increasing standards and regulations in this field. By working on energy management, you stay ahead and can be chosen rather than excluded.

Responsibility and Employee Engagement: Energy management demonstrates that the company is aware of its environmental impact and is committed to sustainability. This can increase employee engagement and attract and retain talented staff.

Innovation Opportunities: By analysing energy consumption and identifying inefficient processes, you can find ways to optimise and improve your operations, creating new business opportunities and enhancing competitiveness.
